APPOINTMENT REQUIRMENT: An appointment with the Borough Registrar is required for all marriage license applications. Kindly provide your marriage date, as well as the details of your officiant and witness, when requesting an appointment. This will help us better assist you and ensure a seamless experience.

Fees: The application fees are $25 plus $3, both payable to the Borough of Garwood. This can be paid via check, EXACT cash or money order.

Waiting Period: There is a mandatory 72-hour waiting period after the application is completed before the marriage license can be issued.

Application Timing: Applications can only be processed within 30 days of the wedding date.

Witness Requirement: A witness aged 18 or older is required at the time of application. Please note that this witness cannot be the same individual who will serve as a witness at the wedding ceremony.

Application Location: A marriage license application can be obtained from the municipality where either the bride or groom resides. If both parties are from out of state, they should apply in the location where the marriage will take place.

Proof of Residency: Proof of residency is required and can include a driver’s license, passport, county ID, or birth certificate (translated if it is in a foreign language).

Required Documents: Please bring the completed Marriage Application (only page 1 should be filled out in advance; page 2 will be completed at our office) along with the required fees to your appointment.
You will need to provide the following:
- The birthplaces of both parents
- Both mothers' maiden names and fathers' names
- The date and place of the marriage
- The name, address, and telephone number of the officiant

Post-Ceremony: After the marriage ceremony, the town where the ceremony occurred will retain the license. You may then obtain a certified copy from that location.

Certified Copies: If the ceremony takes place in Garwood, certified copies can be obtained from this office for a fee of $15 per copy. For ceremonies in other municipalities, the certificate must be obtained from the respective location for the appropriate fee.
