COVID-19 Testing for Garwood Seniors: September 10th, Garwood Fire Dept.
When:The County of Union and Borough of Garwood are pleased to announce mobile COVID-19 testing for any Garwood senior citizen to take place on Thursday, September 10th from 10am to 12 noon at the Garwood Fire Department. The testing will be conducted in the meeting room of the firehouse located at 415 South Avenue where there will be a dedicated entrance door and a dedicated exit door.
The nasal swab COVID-19 test will be administered to any Garwood senior citizen, whether experiencing symptoms or not. Due to high demand at laboratories, test results may take up to 8 days to receive. To register, senior citizens can call (908) 518-4307 or go to www.ucnj.org.
On May 12th Governor Murphy announced his plan to expand testing capacity and contact tracing for the state of New Jersey. Union County has taken its roll to aid the State in this endeavor to increase testing by expanding its mobile unit which began in April. This unit was deployed initially to target higher density municipalities and testing residents that otherwise would not have access to healthcare or testing. After Governor Murphy's call to action, the County identified and began testing in congregated senior facilities and senior centers to test County residents that may not have access to a car and were unable to come to the Kean University drive thru site.
All clinicians that volunteer with Union County Mobile Units as well as the Union County Drive Thru testing site are registered Medical Reserve Corp staff and are trained with the highest clinical safety and best practice standards created uniquely for our County in consultation with the National Guard.
To date, the County has tested over 43,000 patients with over 47% of the positive cases occurring in residents 60 years of age and older. As we begin to enter the next potential wave of both the virus and flu season, it is important for all residents, most especially seniors, to be tested often and receive their flu vaccinations.
