Tax Collector

A statutory officer that is responsible for the billing, collecting, reporting and enforcing property taxes.

As a statutory officer of the State of New Jersey, the Tax Collector is obligated to follow all State Statutes regarding property tax collection including billing, due dates and interest on delinquent taxes, no one has the authority to forgive interest on delinquent taxes.

Per §134 of the Borough Code, the Borough Tax Collector is also designated as the collector of sewer user fees. "User fee" is defined as a fee levied upon all users of the sanitary sewer system towards the annual cost of operation and maintenance of the Borough of Garwood sanitary sewer system.


Tax Payments

  • Property taxes are payable quarterly on the first day of February, May, August and November. There is a 10-day grace period. After the grace period, taxes are considered delinquent and are subject to interest back for the first day of the quarter.
  • To avoid interest charges, payment must be received by the Office of the Tax Collector no later than the last day of the grace period. If mailing your payment, postmark is not accepted.

Sewer User Fees

  • Residential users shall be billed annually by invoice mailed on or before June 1 of each year and due on July 1 of each year.
  • Late payments - users will be subject to the payment of interest of 1.5% per month and penalties received after the due date.
  • To avoid interest charges, payment must be received by the Office of the Tax Collector no later than the last day of the grace period. If mailing your payment, postmark is not accepted.
