Registration Requirements
Anyone wishing to register to vote must:
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Be 18 years of age on or before the election day
- Have resided in the county at least 30 days
- Register at least 21 days prior to the election
Re-Registration
You must re-register if:
- You move from one county to another
- You have a name change due to marriage, divorce or Judgement of Court
- Any change of address

TUESDAY, MAY 12 – Deadline for filing of appointments or applications for Challengers with the Union County Board of Elections for the Primary Election
FRIDAY, MAY 22 – 11-Day Pre-Primary Election Campaign Finance Report due in Trenton
TUESDAY, MAY 26 – Last day to apply by mail for a Mail-In Ballot for the Primary Election
TUESDAY, MAY 26 – Early Voting begins for the Primary Election and ends on Sunday, May 31
SATURDAY, MAY 30 – Special opening from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. of the County Clerk Offices in Elizabeth and Westfield to apply for a Mail-In Ballot for the Primary Election
SUNDAY, MAY 31 – Early Voting ends for the Primary Election
JUNE:
MONDAY, JUNE 1 – Last day to apply in person for a Mail-In Ballot before 3 p.m. in the County Clerk Offices in Elizabeth and Westfield
TUESDAY, JUNE 2 – Primary Election Day: Polls are open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

THURSDAY, AUG 6 – Deadline for Determination of Petition Challenge for School Board petitions
FRIDAY, AUG 7 – Last day for a Municipal and/or County Governing Body to approve a proposition to appear on the General Election Ballot
MONDAY, AUG 10 – General Election and School Board Election Ballot Position Drawing at 3 p.m
FRIDAY, AUG 14 – Last day for an Independent candidate and School Board candidate to withdraw from the General Election Ballot (If a candidate withdraws by this date a new nominating petition naming a replacement candidate can be filed see August 20th deadline)
THURSDAY, AUG 20 – Petition filing deadline for a new Nomination Petition to fill a vacancy for an Independent candidate and School Board candidate for the General Election
FRIDAY, AUG 21 – Last day for voters of a municipality to place a proposition on the General Election Ballot
TUESDAY, AUG 25 – Last day for a candidate nominated in the Primary Election to withdraw from the General Election
THURSDAY, AUG 27 – Last day to fill a vacancy of Primary Election nominees

MONDAY, OCT 5 – 29-Day Pre-General Election and Pre-School Board Election Campaign Finance Report due in Trenton
