Election and Voter Registration Information
The Special Presidential Primary election will be held on Tuesday, February
5, 2008. Polls are open from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The School Board election will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2008. Polls
are open from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2008. Polls are open
from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2008. Polls are
open from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
You must be 18 years of age by the election.
You must be a Citizen of the United States.
You must reside in the State of New Jersey and the Borough of Garwood at
least 30 days prior to the election.
Tuesday, January 15, 2008, last day to register to vote in Special Presidential
Primary Election.
Tuesday, March 25, 2008, last day to register to vote in Annual School Board
Election.
Tuesday, May 13, 2008, last day to register to vote in the June Primary
Election.
Tuesday, October 14, 2008, last day to register to vote in the November
General Election.
At the Borough Clerks Office, Borough Hall, 403 South Avenue, Garwood.
At the Union County board of Elections, 271 North Broad Street, Elizabeth,
NJ 07207.
At any Motor Vehicle Office or Welfare Office.
You can register by mail. An application can be obtained from the Borough Clerk, Board of Elections or Union County Clerk.
The sample ballot you receive from the County Clerk's Office will tell you where to vote or you may contact the Borough Clerk's Office at 908-789-0710.
District One - Firehouse Building, 415 South Avenue
District Two - Borough Hall, 403 South Avenue
District Three - Garwood Public Library, 411 Third Avenue
District Four - Garwood Public Library, 411 Third Avenue
The law has changed. Citizens no longer require
a reason to apply for absentee ballots.
A voter may apply for an absentee ballot by mail up to 7 days prior to the
election. He or she may also apply in person to the County Clerk until 3:00
p.m. the day before the election. Applications are returned to the County
Clerk, Joanne Rajoppi. Voters have the option of automatically receiving
absentee ballots for all elections.
Voting Information concerning Absentee Ballots:
You must be a registered voter in order to apply for an absentee ballot.
Once you apply for an absentee ballot, you will not be permitted to vote
at your polling place in the same election.
Your ballot will be mailed to you on or after the 40th day prior to Election
Day.
You will receive instructions with your ballot.
Your actual absentee ballot must be received by the County Board of Elections
before the close of polls on Election Day.
Do not submit more than one application for the same election.
You must apply for an absentee ballot for each election, unless you designate
otherwise under "OPTIONS" on the absentee ballot.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, last day to apply by mail for absentee ballot
for Special Presidential Primary Election.
Tuesday, April 08, 2008, last day to apply by mail for absentee ballot for
School Board Election.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008, last day to apply by mail for absentee ballot for
June Primary.
Tuesday, October 28, 2008, last day to apply by mail for absentee ballot
for November Election.
Absentee ballot applications are available at the Borough Clerk's Office
or the County Clerk's Office.
A Party Declaration Form must be filled out. This may be obtained from either the Union County Board of Elections or the Borough Clerk's office.
Party affiliation is only required for voting in the Special Presidential and June Primary Election. Forms must be filed no later than Monday, April 14, 2008.
